Muhammad Reza or better known as Azer is always using social media Instagram (@komikazer) as a distribution gallery of his one-strip digital illustration works. Following the tradition of print media illustration, the illustration Azer’s strip in the virtual world was thick with satirical humor criticism. The use of social media on the Internet as a medium for the distribution of digital illustration has allowed the interaction or feedback from other users. His virtual gallery has become a space for discussion and opinion.

Azer is not using unfamiliar subject or character in the illustrations. He portrays the characters through himself or people who are near to him. The daily life issues appointed are trying to re-frame popular socio-political issues and subculture that had lived since the New Order era to the present day. Azer’s digital illustrations indirectly criticizing the concept of a national culture that is ‘the tops of regional cultures’ that under the New Order regime, it became the nation’s identity.

His nickname is Komikazer in the virtual world. In 2004, this graduate of Visual Communication Design at Jakarta Institute of Art gathered with other comic creators in Jakarta in a project called Komik Metropolis Gadungan Menyertai Anda at ruangrupa. In 2012 he joined photography project Top Collection 3. A year later he created comic for Berkas, a regular publication for Jakarta Biennale XV. Along with the rapid internet penetration in Indonesia, he decided to move online and displayed his works in the virtual world. Every now and then he still joins various exhibitions in galleries and public spaces.
