The success story of the TV puppet series Si Unyil, which produced by the State Film Production Center (PPFN), Si Titik was born with the same outline as its ‘brother’, Unyil, but with a different story. The character Titik was described as a little girl who survived a plane crash and ended up living in the jungle. Each episode, Si Titik appeared to play in the woods and taught animals of the forest to read and write. The message of Si Titik is the awareness to preserve the environment. Unfortunately there were only eight episodes of Si Titik in 1982 to 1984 because it was not as popular as Si Unyil.

The social background of the film can be used as an introductory to see how the state (New Order government) saw the people outside Java that need to be nurtured and educated, even down to the level of preservation of the environment. The revival of Si Titik from the “cinema grave” will show the different historical narratives of which are shown by the puppet legend Si Unyil.

Lab Laba-Laba

Lab Laba-Laba. This open group was formed in 2014
and put the building of Laboratorium Perusahaan
Umum Produksi Film Negara (State Film Production
Public Perum PFN) as its center of activities. This group
saves data and recovers celluloid film stored in Perum
PFN lab vaults. For more than a year, they re-animate
public memories from the glory of old time from PFN
—as a body who produced propaganda publication for
New Order regime. They also actively held screening,
discussion, workshop, and public display, while doing
the archive works. Last April 2015, this group ran a coexhibition
entitled Mengalami Kemanusiaan, involving
its members.
