Saur Sepuh is one of the legendary radio shows of the Indonesian radio broadcasting world and its audience. This drama set in the era of Majapahit Kingdom under the rule of Hayam Wuruk, written by Niki Kosasih, tells about a potent warrior called Brama Kumbara. This story was an alternative entertainment for Indonesian people in the 1980s together with the penetration of television and video into the houses.

The 1980s was the childhood period of the artists united in Jakarta Wasted Artists. They share a collective memory of the Saur Sepuh radio show that was popular during their childhood. At that time radio was an entertainment media rarely found outside the capital city. Elsewhere people came in throngs to places that had a radio, whether someone’s house or meeting halls.

Jakarta Wasted Artists try to interpret and reconstruct the Saur Sepuh radio show in a video installation. At the end of the 1980s this radio drama was interpreted into cinema and television film. But the medium change from audio-based to the motion picture disappointed this group. Their fantasy built by sounds was richer compared to the aesthetics and visual language transformed from the drama script.
