Symposium—How the New Order Creat(e)d Its Indonesians

Symposium
Indonesia, 2015

Fifty years ago, the New Order emerged as a new ruler of Indonesia. Seventeen year later, the regime collapsed. Why did we say the New Order emerged fifty years ago while Soeharto held power since 1968? It was simply because the New Order has revealed itself in 1965. It was symbolically marked when Radio Republic of Indonesia (RRI) was taken over by Soeharto armies from Untung forces. Many says that taking control over the information technology was the New Order’s first step to power in Indonesia.

This symposium is a joint effort between OK. Video Festival and IndoPROGRESS discussing about the New Order under the topic: “How the New Order Creat(e)d Its Indonesians”. The topic will put spotlight into three subjects and divided to four panels. The symposium will be opened by keynote speaker Seno Gumira Adjidarma. Keynote speaker will deliver their thoughts on the New Order imagination on Indonesia’s individual and as a nation, its context, and how the New Order manifested its imagination into daily practices.
