Johannes Gierlinger made use of systematic construction to dismantle the polemic idea of happiness – which at one side is believed as a universal meaning, but also a sensation relative in nature at the other side. Here, he strings a visual essay through his subjective point of view by positioning himself as an observer of world events. Individual aims on the various political events and cultural practices – parades, riots, demonstrations, views on the sidewalk, occurrence in the transportation modes, recreational venues, technology inventions, and many more – have become the representation of codes on the freedom which perseveres within various symptoms and limitations of socio-economy.

The Fortune You Seek is In Another Cookie is regarded as an artwork trying to reflect the connections between human [lives] and the universe. The artwork cross-conflicted imageries, text and voice into scenes contradictory to each other. The systematic approach vaguely reminds us, from a different kind of perspective, to the idea of Bernadette Jiwa’s principle on the communication strategy as a business strategy: human, as a social and rational creature, will enhance the empathy and compassion over an issue should a narration is present to complete its framework. A film, in its very nature, put a basis of narration as its main historical essence for the background of the polemic. The artwork is a poetic reflection on everything abstract, as it politically echoing the yearning of seeing the world with a new way: happiness is a long journey in defining the anxiety towards the world itself.
