Single Channel Video
Indonesia, 2014

In its presentation, The Ideas Trial is trying to get out of the boundaries of cinema (single channel and a dark room). This work invites viewers to participate by reading the same script that is read by five judges and one moderator who has different characters, but actually came from just one player. The film which is inspired by a play by Reginald Rose, The Twelve Angry Men (1957), presents a tension between the area of cinema, theater, literature, and interactive work in one performance.

The Ideas Trial questions the human consciousness in formulating a decision. In this case, they argue about a quality of artistic ideas. What happens when people question something uncountable? How must we reach a conclusion when the hypothetical object does not have an amount? A dramaturgy which presupposes various criteria and interests conveyed by the sound of confusion and debate in the mind of an artist (human) that never ends. To whom an individual will give its voting rights if it occurs in the private space?
