It is inevitable that the necessity of medium change brings sociological impacts of a developing visual culture. One of the period-divisioning in reading the video development based on the medium access are what we know as the analogue era and digital era. The medium-based period-divisioning shows their impacts in the context of society participation development in understanding and using the visual language. Each of the periods had gone through changes. Politically, the analogue era could be declared as a new order which is centralistic in its visual language; because the state has total overall control. In the analog era, we found a lack in deployment and facilitation of medium usage in the society. Meanwhile, the digital era could be addressed as the reform era which is more democratic in terms of visual language, because of its medium deployment and facilitation within the public.

Videobase  is a research project of Forum Lenteng upon the deployment and facilitation history of technological ideas and visual culture of video media technology which started in 2008. The sketches and results of this research have been presented several times in form of exhibitions; such as in Bentara Budaya on 2009, and in Galeri Salihara of 2011. “OK. Video” festival showcases the Videobase research results which specifically picture the roles of corporations and state in the development and deployment of technological ideas, visual culture, and government control propaganda towards the society in the analogue era.
