Internet-Meme is a form of content proliferation distributed online on the Internet space with various form of images, from static to moving image. Migrated from one user to another, Internet-Meme also constantly evolved, changing into a new form adjusting with the media technology development from time to time.
Apart from its farce content, Internet-meme always attracted attention and often become a phenomena amongst society. Its simple form, not unlike an advertisement, can be said as a flexible, anarchy and provocative alternative communication media. Its generative property makes it easy to extensively reproduced and distributed.
One of the most intriguing examples of Internet-meme phenomena is one of the Indonesia Presidential General Election in 2014. During the event, the people were creatively enthusiastic in making various remarks consisting of political opinion packed in a witty and satirical internet-meme with various digital format, such as, .jpeg to moving picture in the form of .gif, without excluding many types of video format with. This fact has shown how the internet-meme artistic form, while experiencing a constant flux at the same time setting its grasp on the people’s social and ideological condition, could also be seen as the expression of the face of the people.
Meme holds a very important part in a digital culture. Here, meme plays a function as an alternative media capable of moving against the current. Although its preliminary hideous and cheap form, Internet-meme is not only taken as a mere joke, but, as an important form of new urban communication culture. If we take a closer analysis, Internet-meme contains many period development markers covering various aspects. Starting from technology, ideology and socio-cultural aspect perversely flourishing in the people on a certain period. Today, its plebeian form is not just a joke, but it is, inevitably, a part of culture and has become an alternative form of aesthetics in art.
This virtual exhibition invites several artists whose focus of artistic distribution was the virtual space, such as, Azer, Oomleo and Yusuf Ismail. This exhibition is opened for the people and at the same time, the people is invited to upload their digital work in the form of Internet-meme to a website, which, essentially will become the exhibition space as a digital format work. Format such as .png, .jpeg, moving picture such as, .gif, .mp4 and also .mov. Public presentation such as discussion and multimedia exhibition is designed to present the best work to be uploaded into the website.
